Why convert fonts to outlines

  • Exact appearance guarantee — even if the printing house does not have your font, everything will print exactly as in the layout.
  • No need to attach fonts to the layout — they are already embedded as vector shapes.
  • Standard requirement — most printing houses request a PDF with outlines for offset and UV printing.
  • Double-sided printing via CorelDRAW — needed when printing is launched directly from Corel, but the source file came in PDF. When importing PDF into Corel, fonts not converted to curves may shift or be substituted: the front and back do not align, and the print run has to be redone. not due to the customer's fault. Curves eliminate this problem.
  • File size usually does not increase — Ghostscript optimizes curves compactly.

Important about .cdr

  • CDR files are read through LibreOffice and are immediately converted to PDF. You will receive PDF, a non-editable .cdr is a feature of the Linux server, it does not have CorelDRAW.
  • For printing, this is perfectly — the printing house will accept such a PDF without questions. But if you want to further edit in Corel, save the original .cdr file.
  • Complex Corel effects (PowerClip, shadows, contours with dynamic parameters) may convert inaccurately. Simple layouts open well.
  • If the layout does not have embedded fonts, default ones are used on the server — it is advisable to check before uploading embed fonts in .cdr (File → Document Properties → Embed fonts).
